The violent domestic violence epidemic crisis described by the police chief here continues.
Friday morning, 29-year-old Courtney Cardenas had just dropped off her daughter at daycare when her ex-husband, 31-year-old Isaac Cardenas, jumped out from the trunk and kidnapped her. What transpired, she said, was unimaginable horror.
"That's what I keep telling everybody," said Courtney. "It's like something out of a movie the way he came out of the back seat."
Courtney was able to get away after stopping in traffic at an intersection near the busy Buc-ee's Convenience Store. She has no idea how her ex-husband was able to get into her car.
She's aware of 32-year-old Lisa Hermes, the young mother killed by her estranged husband in front of their two children in October. She said now her situation is escalating.
"It's no longer just a threat," Courtney told us. "It's actually physical violence and maybe even death."
New Braunfels Police have issued an arrest warrant for Isaac Cardenas and plan to charge him with aggravated kidnapping. When he's caught, bond will be set at $400,000.
