NY hosts Janmashtami block party

NEW YORK: More than 3000 people from all over the United States attended the recent Janmashtmi block party hosted by Radha Govind Dham in New York City. This was the second Janmashtami party organised by the Dham.

The event began at 3.00pm on September 5 with a performance by Suresh on the guitar singing Krishna bhajans, followed by a lecture by Swami Nikhilanand, a Dham preacher from Austin, Texas. A dance and Leela performance followed - this was presented by the students of Shiksha, a cultural-educational outfit run by the Dham. About 70 children participated in the best dressed Krishna (fancy dress) contest. The outdoor program ended with a Garba dance involving all participants of the programme. This was followed by further activities inside the temple until midnight including the abhishek of Krishna and the maha arti. Free snacks and dinner were served at the end of the programme.
