Greater Hyderabad population set to cross1 crore mark
HYDERABAD: The population under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits is all set to cross the one crore mark by this year end of which the electorate will be around 70 lakh. This was disclosed by election commissioner H S Brahma on Monday after he reviewed the voter enrollment process that is taking place in the state.
As per the 2011 census, the urban population of Hyderabad city was more than 77 lakh. The population of Greater Hyderabad urban conglomeration was estimated to be above 91 lakh. The population of the state is 8.7 crore and is set to cross the 9 crore mark by the end of this year with 5.81 crore voters.
"Voters in GHMC limits were around 65 lakh and their number will go up to 70 lakh by this year end. Our target is to ensure 100% voter enrollment and identity card delivery," said Brahma. He announced that the election notification for 22 MLC seats that are falling vacant by March 29 will be issued very soon after the voter enrollment for 3 Graduate and 3 Local Body constituencies was completed. "The voter list for these MLC constituencies will be published on January 22," said Brahma.
