More than 200 Engineering Colleges in Telangana have applied for a cancellation of over 42,000 seats in their own colleges. Around 14 colleges have applied for a complete closure. JNTU Hyderabad has immediately responded to the requests and accepted the applications. They have started issuing the No Objection Certificates [NOCs] with immediate effect.

JNTU has been strict in approving the Engineering Colleges' affiliation and has been causing a major havoc since an year or so. Disappointed with the new rules set by JNTU, most of them have come forward to cancel the seats themselves.

Earlier, JNTU has canceled/denied the affiliation to 160+ colleges for the previous academic year [2014-2015] and all those canceled colleges have approached the Supreme Court at that point of time. Even though the court has given a ruling in favor of the colleges, they are not willing to participate in the counseling this year for various reasons.

"With infinite number of Engineering Colleges in Telangana, most of the seats are being left vacant after counseling. With the new rules framed by JNTU, we cannot accommodate enough staff for those vacant seats and equip our colleges with more infrastructure. It is better to run the colleges with limited seats and limited staff," said the Director of an Engineering College.
