Leading Indian women's doubles badminton player and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Gutta Jwala, has once again lashed out at Indian Badminton chief coach Pullela Gopichand. Yesterday, the central sports ministry listed out 39 athletes in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), which will offer the athletes a contract with the ministry that funds their preparation for the 2019 Rio Olympics.
After not finding her and her partner Ashwini Ponnappa's name, Jwala came down heavily on Gopi Chand and said that she is being targeted for not 'massaging his ego'. Jwala also posed several direct questions to Gopi Chand about his biased selection of his academy players, who rank much lower than Jwala but got contracts worth 60 lakhs.
Couple of months ago, the first list of the prospective medal winners was announced for TOPS scheme. Even then, Jwala vented out her dissent but she was assured of her berth in the second list. Severely distraught by the ministry doable standards, Jwala now wants to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and explain him about Gopichand's personal vendetta.
