The Hyderabad High Court on Monday questioned the Telangana State government over inordinate delay in conducting elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Some of the petitioners approached the court asking to conduct GHMC elections with immediate effect opining that the delay was hampering the development.Responding to the petition court asked the TRS government to file an affidavit in seven days on the exact dates for conducting the elections.
Court observed that there should not be delay in elections for local bodies which are main pillars of democracy. The current term of the GHMC council ends this December. In last year August High court made it clear that the election notification should be announced after delimitation of wards.
Though the high court directed the state government to complete the de-limitation of wards, TRS leadership didn’t paid heed. With the new order form HC , Chief Minister is likely to hold talks with cabinet ministers to make final decision on the voting dates.
Meanwhile CM KCR cautiously making his moves keeping in view of upcoming GHMC elections. He recently roped in TDP leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav into his party and also offered him a minister post, hoping that he will make way for TRS into GHMC office.Lets wait and see for the final result.
