Andhra Pradesh government plans to utilise a minimum of 975 TMC of Krishna, Godavari and other river waters in the state which were going waste to sea.
The state cabinet on monday noted that nearly 4140 TMC of the total of 5742 TMC of water in all the rivers of the state were going waste into the sea and only 1594 TMC was put to use in power generation and irrigation.
"It has now been decided that a minimum of 2500 TMC will be utlised and irrigate 2.5 crore acres of land ( Additional of 1 crore acres)," said I & PR minister Palle Raghunath Reddy briefing the cabinet decisions. In a breakthrough measure, Chief Minister will lay foundation for the works at Polavaram to divert 70 TMC of Godavari water to Krishna.
