Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally here on January 31, the BJP central leadership on Thursday decided to put its campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections in top gear by fielding several of its frontline leaders, including Union Ministers.
The party is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Mr. Modi’s four rallies are a better show than the first one at Ramlila Ground on January 10.
Strategy meetingParty president Amit Shah held a strategy meeting on Thursday with senior Union Ministers, members of Parliament and general secretaries. Around 20 Union Ministers and 120 MPs will address 250 meetings.
Rattled by the strides made by the Aam Aadmi Party indicated in pre-poll surveys, the BJP hopes the Congress will divide the Muslim and slum-dweller votes to its advantage.
The party’s calculation is that the results of the Delhi election would depend on the efforts of the Congress to snatch back its traditional vote share from the AAP.
The BJP’s own internal assessment has made the party realise that this battle is tougher than the one in 2013 when it won 32 of the 70 seats, the AAP got 28 and the Congress won eight.
