Kuppam (Chittoor), the constituency represented by AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, is one among five locations under consideration for setting up Cargo Airports. The other places include Donakonda (Prakasam), Dagadarti (Nellore), Bhogapuram (Vizianagaram) and Oravakallu (Kurnool).
Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (INCAP) will be conducting Technical Feasible Study (TFS) to construct these 5 green-field Airports. While the Airports Authority of India (AAI) onducted a pre-feasibility study for construction of Dagadarti and Donakonda airports, State Government will take up the mission to compplete other Airports on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis.
Officials say, Only 3 [Kuppam (Chittoor), Donakonda (Prakasam), Dagadarti (Nellore)] out of the 5 locations proposed for New Airports might receive the approval of Centre. Bhogapuram (Vizianagaram) and Oravakallu (Kurnool) are unlikely to qualify due to non-availability of upto 4,000-5,000 acres for setting up an International Airport.
