The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has plans to install 1000 e- libraries in the state capital with people participation in addition to the existing libraries and reading rooms.

The GHMC commissioner who reviewed the status of the municipal libraries in the state capital said the any residential welfare association can apply if they have 20x15 spaces to keep two computers, a reading table with chairs. The GHMC will give an one time grant of Rs. 2 lakhs for computers, table, chairs and also a monthly allowance of Rs.2000 towards the purchase of newspapers and maintenance.

The GHMC will also provide free Wi-Fi so that the youth and interested persons could read the newspapers on computers instead of hard copy. The GHMC officials will monitor regularly on the functioning of the e-libraries and will discontinue service and support if they were not working properly.
