High Court,Stay Order,Demolition,Heritage Building
Hyderabad: The high court that refuses to interfere in the Telangana state government’s decision of shifting of Secretariat to Erragadda, issues a stay order for the same in a different case.
Peoples’ Front president B Maddileti and Telangana Nava Nirmana Sena president K Venkataiah have filed a petition in the high court challenging the Telangana government’s decision to demolish the heritage building located in the premises of Erragadda hospital for constructing Secretariat building. They appealed the high court to order the state government not to demolish the heritage building. However, Telangana Advocate General Ramakrishna Reddy told the court that the state government has not taken any final decision in this regard.
The high court bench led by Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothy Sengupta and P Sanjay Kumar ordered the Telangana government to constitute a committee to study the historic importance of the building and submit its report within six weeks. The high court bench asked the government not to touch the building until it goes through the report. So, the court’s stay order has applied breaks to the government to go ahead with its plans to build a new Secretariat building at Erragadda.
