If reports are to be believed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, referred as Yuva Raja of Congress, would soon take over the reigns of the party from his mother-Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Sonia is reportedly mulling over to elevate Rahul as Congress president as the party is going through its rough phase. Currently, Rahul is on "leave", say media reports and Congress party sources.
However, we hear that Sonia and Rahul "differed" on the issue of transferring party responsibilities and hence "upset" Rahul gone on "leave". The story doing the rounds is that Rahul asked Sonia to hand over the party reigns to him to which latter reportedly turned down at the moment. Latest buzz is that it's being sorted out and Rahul may soon be asked to take charge as party president. Amidst clamour for Priyanka to take party reigns growing, Rahul's elevation might raise many eyeballs.
Sonia Gandhi has been the longest-serving Congress President since 1998, when she took over the reins of the party from Sitaram Kesri. While Congress under her leadership lost to BJP-led NDA in 1999 general elections, it catapulted to power in 2004 forming an umbrella coalition of UPA and it saw two uninterrupted governments at Centre. With the latest reports coming in, it seems, prince would be soon be King of Congress and successor to Sonia.
