She won a Guinness World Record when she became the first woman to fly a plane using her feet. She was awarded the first armless black belt in the American Tae Kwon Do Association.
Meet 32-year-old Jessica Cox, who overcame her disability to prove that there can be no barrier to success. She proved herself by showing that not having arms was not the end of life for her. She showed the world that there is a need to have a different attitude towards disability.
Although Jessica grew up wearing prosthetics, she got rid of them when she turned 14 and decided to use her feet instead.
"There's nothing that can substitute the tactile ability of flesh and bone- and my feet have that ability", she says.
Jessica does not allow her disability to limit her activities in any way and has always been on her feet since her childhood.
She says, "Naturally people saw me not having arms as a limiting factor but I was there to prove them wrong. At three years old, I was involved in gymnastics, at six I started tap dancing lessons, I did modelling, I swam at five, 10-years-old I was doing Tae Kwon Do. I did every activity that you could imagine."
If the above mentioned were not enough, she also drives a car without modifications, type rapidly on a keyboard and even play two full duets with her husband.
She also found her support and encouragement in her husband, Patrick Chamberlain, whom she met five years ago through their mutual passion for Tae Kwon Do.
"Patrick, was a fourth-degree black belt and he was teaching a class with my friend, and we hit it off right away," she says.
"We got to know one another on an instructor-student basis and met outside of school at social gatherings. He moved on to a different Tae Kwon Do school eventually and he asked me out and the rest was history," she adds.
The duo had been dating for several months when Patrick realized that she was the woman of his dreams.
"She is unrelenting, positive, and unstoppable, and has opened my eyes to new possibilities since the day I met her,"says the 30-year-old.
The couple tied the knot in 2012 and began living together in Tuscon, Arizona, where she lives her life independently.
However, Jessica admits that she did face some challenges during the course of life. She explains the difficulties she faced while learning how to get dressed.
"We started off mounting hooks on the walls and I would hang my clothes on the hooks and wiggle my way into them. The hooks would sometimes create holes in my clothes and it was hard to have the hook in public restrooms where I needed to get dressed; so I have a new hook that has a suction on it and it has been with me since I was 18-years-old," she says.
Currently, her only trouble is to do her hair.
"Patrick learned to do a very nice ponytail, bun and braid - it's very special because he realized how much it annoyed me to have my hair in my face," she adds.
Jessica earned the Guinness World Record in 2008 when she received her pilot's license and came to be the first woman to fly an airplane with her feet.
She says, "It took three years, three different airplanes, three instructors, 80 hours of flying in three states, and I was a certified pilot."
Jessica and Patrick are inspiring others around the globe by publicly discussing about Jessica's exceptional life. They travel together to motivate others and prove that there is no limit to achieving your goals.
"Recently I met a little girl who never met someone without arms. I just told her that she's going to be okay and I gave her confidence, that's what I'm really passionate about. I love reaching out to kids and letting them know that they can do anything," Jessica says.
Jessica adds, "If we did have a child without arms, we wouldn't hesitate - I lived my life just fine without arms.
