Two former High Court Judges A Gopala Rao and Justice P Lakshmana Reddy, senior journalist ABK Prasad and senior advocate C Sadasiva Reddy have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Hyderabad High Court questioning the constitutional validity of AP Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014 (CRDA Act) that came into force on December 30th, 2014.
Urging the High Court to declare the CRDA Act as unconstitutional and against the provisions of the AP Reorganization Act, the Petitioners mentioned that the power to identify the New Capital lies with the Centre and not the Successor State of AP as per Section 6 of the AP Reorganization Bill.
Sivaramakrishnan Committee formed by Centre will be choosing the suitable location for AP Capital, is what the PIL brings to the notice of the High Court. The Committee has given thumbs down to Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri (VGTM) zone and suggested the Government to ensure no damage to the agriculture systems during the capital construction.
