It is good news that the road rage on Outer Ring Road has come down reducing the misery to parents of speed loving youth.
The number of deaths and road accidents on the Outer Ring Road has nosedived in 2014. Deaths reduced by 27 percent and accidents by 21 percent. The recorded accidents in 2013 were 92 and deaths 59, where as in 2014 the total number of accidents on ORR was 73 with 43 deaths.
The HMDA, in association with the Cyberabad police had organized an awareness campaign on road safety to the ORR users while the next phase of Traffic Safety Week is slated from April 11 to 17. The awareness campaign is designed to help ORR users know the rules and guidelines to be followed on super high way on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Currently, 138 km is open to traffic on ORR out of the total length of 158 km. Vehicular traffic on ORR is around 30,000 vehicles per day.
Display of safety signage, patrolling services, ambulance services, tow vehicle services etc are premier support services that have brought down the accidents and deaths, say Cyberabad police. Patrolling on five important ORR stretches have also been going on since January 2014. Some of the patrolling vehicles are equipped with speed guns and breathe analyzers.
