Hyderabad: Telangana will witness a wave of cultural renaissance soon. Telugu university named after Potti Sriramulu will soon be renamed after Telangana bidda Suravaram Pratap Reddy, a noted social historian from Gadwal. Chiraan Palace, renamed Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park, is likely to be named after Asaf Jahi. Former wife of VIIIth Nizam, Princess Esra requested the Chief Minister to rename the park after former Prince Mukarram Jah, but the government is toying with the idea of renaming it after Asaf Jahi.
From next academic year, students will have lessons on Telangana armed struggle, movement, Prof. Jayashanker — the TS ideologue, poet Dasaradhi and Ponnaganti Telangana of Patancheru, a classical poet to name a few.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao held a series of meetings with advisers to promote Telangana culture, poets, historians, TS movement leaders and historical places. He is also keen on promoting Palkurki Somanatha, noted Telugu writer of the 12th century who wrote Basava Purana, as “Telangana Adi Kavi”.
A noted Telugu, Sanskrit and Kannada scholar, Somanatha reportedly hailed from Palakurthi village in Warangal district, though there is a dispute over his place of birth as there is a village by that name in Karnataka. Telangana poets and writers are overwhelmed with the CM’s statements at cultural meets that TS Adi Kavi is Palkurki Somanatha and not Rajahmundry born poet Nannayya Bhattaraka, who wrote Andhra Mahabharatham, a Telugu retelling of Mahabharata. He also promised statues of prominent TS leaders at vantage locations in Hyderabad.
