Ten Telangana Telugu Desam Party MLAs on Tuesday staged a sit-in inside the chamber of Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary demanding action against the legislators, who had defected to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Led by the TTDP Floor Leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Deputy Floor leader A. Revanth Reddy, the TDP legislators walked into the Speaker’s chamber before the House commenced its sitting. They sought a clarification on the disqualification of the TDP legislators, who had defected to the TRS in the last few months. They insisted that the Speaker give them answer before the House commenced its proceedings.
The Speaker is said to have told them that they could not dictate terms and reminded them that he would act as per the laid down procedures. The Speaker then went into the House to chair the proceedings.
The agitated MLAs then squatted on the floor of the Speaker’s chamber and till reports last came in they were still protesting. It may be mentioned here that the TTDP MLAs had been suspended from the House for rest of the session after the Governor’s address on March 7 for the ugly scenes witnessed on that day.
Earlier, the BJP floor leader K. Laxman appealed to the Speaker to lift the suspension as only two days remained for the budget session to conclude. Congress MLA J. Geetha Reddy too echoed similar sentiment.
