923 cases booked for violation of traffic rules

Srikakulam: A total of 923 cases were booked against violators of traffic rules during the special drive on road safety taken up by the Road Transport Department in Srikakulam district from March 3 to 13. Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) N Nageswara Rao said here on Friday, “We conducted the special drive as part of efforts to curb road accidents. We booked 923 cases and collected Rs 6 lakh as penalty from the violators.”

Four teams, which were deployed across the district, conducted checks at important junctions and booked 130 cases relating overload, 15 cases of drunk driving, 473 cases for not wearing seatbelts and 305 cases for other violations.Motor Vehicle Inspectors Govind Raju, Sanjiva Rao, Hari Prasad, Leela Prasad and Venkata Rao participated in the special drive, the DTC said.
