Hyderabad: Thanking employees for their role in the Telangana movement and in achieving statehood, the Telangana government on Thursday announced its first Pay Revision Commission (PRC) for its staff with immediate effect.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who accepted the PRC’s recommendation of 43 per cent fitment (weightage), disclosed that the government’s decision would impose an additional burden of Rs 6,500 crore on the exchequer annually.

The government has also decided to rationalise, modify and simplify employees’ service rules soon to avoid harassment and litigations. “This is the Telangana government’s first PRC, It’s a great PRC. We are implementing the PRC from June 2, 2014, the date of formation of the new state. Employees will get the pay hike from February, which is paid in March.

Arrears will be put in employees’ GPF which will ensure 8.5 per cent interest,” the Chief Minister told media persons at the Secretariat before leaving for New Delhi on a five-day trip.

Asking 3.5 lakh employees to work an hour more to mop up resources in revenue-earning departments, achieve the government’s objectives and ensure implementation of its programmes and policies effectively,

Mr Rao said the government took the decision to implement the PRC immediately in vie-w of the ensuing Legisl-ative Council polls, wh-ich would have put a br-eak on implementation.
