Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum movie review is here. Starring Vijay Sethupathi and debutante Madonna Sebastian of Premam fame in the lead, the movie is an official remake of a South Korean flick, My Dear Desperado.

So what does this Tamil adaptation, helmed by Nalan Kumarasamy of Soodhu Kavvum fame has to offer? Continue reading our review to unlock the answer.

Story:

Nalan has not tampered with the core plot of the film, which makes sure the soul of the original flick stays intact throughout. Smart changes however, has been made to suit Tamil audiences.

Madonna Sebastian plays an engineer, who works in an IT company but is soon made to shift to a low-end apartment as her company goes bankrupt.

While she has to bear her new locality until finding another job, she meets her guy next door (opposite door in this case), played by Vijay Sethupathi, who is a small-time gangster.

Though she ignores him initially, fate comes up with a twist as she ends up drinking with him, post which they spend a night together. Later, an unforeseen situation makes Vijay Sethupathi act as her well off boyfriend in front of her father. Madonna then decides to stay with her father and Vijay returns to Chennai, only to start a gang war of sorts.

Will these two ever fall in love? What happens to the gang war started by Vijay? Answers to these questions forms the rest of the plot.

Performances:

One of the main reasons why this film works is because of its central characters. While Vijay Sethupathi turns even an ordinary scene into a laugh riot, Madonna makes an impressive debut. Since the movie revolves around its lead pair, supporting actors have limited screen space and yet Samuthirakani makes his presence felt with a superlative extended cameo.

Technicalities:

Cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan stands out in the technical department. His usage of tones and angles are impressive to say the least. Leo John Paul comes up with some interesting cuts, that makes the movie gripping to a certain extent.

Surprisingly, Santhosh Narayanan's background score isn't as exciting as some of his previous works. His songs are repetitive, as it was in films like 36 Vayadhinile. Surely, this man is gifted enough to compose newer tunes.

The actual problem with Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum is, if you take out its lead pair and comical elements, the movie has nothing interesting to offer in terms of its story and screenplay.

Verdict:

No, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum is not as impressive as Nalan's first outing. Having said that, it makes for a decent watch, thanks to its sparkling lead pair.
