24 movie review is here. Starring Suriya, Samantha and Nithya Menon in the lead roles, 24 is one of the most awaited Tamil movies of the year.
So what does the much hyped sci-fi thriller, directed by Vikram Kumar, has to offer to its audiences? Continue reading our review to know.
Story:
The plot of 24 is pretty straight forward. Centered around a watch, invented by Sethuraman (Suriya), the film is a cat-and-mouse game between two characters. The fight here is to take possession of the watch, that can control time. While Athreya (Suriya), a menacing don, tries to get hold of the watch, it is Mani's (once again played by Suriya) responsibility to hold on to his father's wonderful invention.
Performances:
As expected, it is Suriya all the way. Watch out for his terrific performance as he pulls off the roles of Sethuraman and Athreya with elan. Even as Mani, who repairs watches for a living, he is outstanding. But it is the characterization of the other two characters that makes his performance a jaw-dropper. Athreya fulfils all your expectations to the fullest.
Nithya Menon loses out to Samantha in the battle for more screen space. However, it is the other way round when it comes to performance. Call it Vikram's writing but Nithya clearly has more scope to perform, which she has done well, even though she has limited time and space on screen.
Technicalities:
Technically, 24 is a trendsetter. Made with a budget of 75 Crore rupees, the movie might make you feel as if you are experiencing a flick worth more than 120 Crores.
Production values of 24 is simply unbelievable. Kudos to each and every technician who has worked in this brilliant film. What stands out the most is Tirru's cinematography.
Surely, 24 has to be one of the most eye-pleasing Tamil films made in the recent past. Writing and screenplay by Vikram Kumar is formidable. 24, barring a few romantic scenes and an unnecessary song, is a roller-coaster ride.
Though the second half is a tad slow, the film manages to keep you hooked throughout. Surprisingly, AR Rahman's music is not up to the mark. While background score is only average, his songs are made bearable by brilliant visuals.
Verdict:
24 might just be one of the best sci-fi thrillers ever made in our country. Yes, it has its flaws, but they are ignorable, making this Suriya-starrer a brilliant watch!
