Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday asked the officials to complete the construction of flyover at Kanakadurga temple before Krishna Pushkaralu.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting with the officials and the contractor and wanted them to begin the works and complete the flyover ahead of the Pushkaralu.
Local MLC and senior Telugu Desam leader, Buddha Venkanna, who fought for the flyover at the temple to clear the traffic rush, thanked the Chief Minister for taking the initiative and getting clearances from the Central government for the flyover.
He recalled the dharna held in the city on June 25, 2012, for the flyover in which Chandrababu Naidu, as leader of Opposition in the Assembly participated. He said that the Telugu Desam had also promised the flyover in the election manifesto and had secured all clearances for the flyover.
The Central government had approved a budget of Rs 292 crore for the flyover, he added. The Chief Minister asked the officials to hold a review meeting with the contractor and ensure that the works commenced on time. He also asked the elected representatives to keep a regular watch on the works to ensure quick completion of the project.
Meanwhile, the elected representatives of the ruling party, including the legislators and the corporators from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation met in the city and resolved to ensure completion of the flyover construction at the earliest.
They also felt the need to hold a meeting with the contractor to speed up the process. The leaders said that they would hold another meeting with the residents of the area whose houses are to be evicted for the flyover.
