A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court asked the Telangana government to appoint Vice-Chancellors to 10 universities in the state within the next 90 days.
Based a petition filed by Forum for Good Governance, the bench comprising of Justice Dilip B Bhonsale and SV Bhatt, directed the government to take immediate measures to fill the vacant VC posts. The petitioner complained that Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi, JNTU, PS Telugu University, B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Palamuru, Satavahana and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and fine arts universities are functioning without Vice-Chancellors. Also these universities are running with less than 50 percent teaching staff.
Telangana government requested the court to give at least six months’ time for recruiting new VCs. However, the court declined the plea and granted only three months time.
