New Delhi: Reacting sharply to a Twitter user who said that her daughter obtained a seat in a medical college on Northeast quota, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said that her daughter is a barrister and an Oxford graduate.
A user, with Twitter handle @pakoed, had said, “Sushma is no stranger to taking and giving favours! Her daughter studied through North-East quota in medical college.” (sic) Ms Swaraj reacted to this in a tweet saying, “My daughter is a Barrister and Oxford graduate. What you say is absolutely false.” Soon after Ms Swaraj’s reply, the handle was deleted. However, other users re-tweeted the tweet.
Lalit Modi, in a television interview on Tuesday, had said that Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje had supported in writing his immigration plea in Britain and that he has a “family” relationship with Ms Swaraj whose husband and daughter had provided legal services “free of cost” to him.
Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad defended Ms Swaraj saying “as far as impropriety allegation is concerned, I don’t buy that logic. It was just a case of compassionate intervention for a humanitarian cause. That’s all.”
