Hyderabad: At least 10 students, aged around 15, were injured on Friday evening when the school bus in which they were travelling overturned on the ORR Road near Shamshabad.
The students were from the Sai Teja Vidyaniketan School near Patancheru and were returning after a picnic at Mount Opera, the police said. Locals took the students to the Trident Hospital at Shamshabad, where 10 students were declared as seriously injured. There were 38 students in the school bus.
The bus swerved off the road and overturned after its tyres burst, Shamshabad ACP Sudershan said. The bus driver, who fled after the accident, is absconding. Around 100 children from the Sai Teja Vidyaniketan School went for a picnic at Mount Opera on Friday in two buses.
The bus in which the students were traveling was not owned by the school. They were using Vivekananda School’s bus. The bus had very bad tyres and was not properly maintained, locals who witnessed the mishap said.
