Even as the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad directed the AP authorities to ban cockfight sport in the state during the Sankranti festival as it violates the provisions of the  Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Undi MLA Sivarama Raju has asserted that cockfight is an age old tradition and the people will continue to indulge in the sport, come what may.

"We will not keep quiet if our tradition faces hurdles. If necessary, we will go to Supreme Court and continue the cockfight sport which is our age old tradition, " he told reporters reacting to High Court orders on the issue.

Meanwhile, the organisers, mostly the ruling TDP leaders are busy making arrangements for the cockfight sport for the coming Sankranti. Both East and West Godavari districts are getting ready for the event.
