Sai Sindhu Sri, native of Savarala Veedhi of Nellore, reportedly committed suicide on February 5 in California, USA. However, her parents were informed on February 10 much to their shock. After learning the issue on Tuesday, they informed the relatives in America to look into it. The relatives visited Sindhu Sri’s house and confirmed that she committed suicide on February 5.
Sai Sindhu Sri, daughter of Krishnaiah and Uma Maheswari, was married to Uday Kumar, software engineer of Kukatpally, Hyderabad, on May 27, 2011. Her parents said that they had given huge amount as dowry at the time of marriage. Suspecting foul play, the parents of Sindhu Sri approached Nellore SP S Senthil Kumar to investigate into the death of their daughter.
They told the SP that Uday Kumar and his parents used to demand additional dowry though Rs 5.5 lakh in cash, 70 sovereigns of gold and 10 kg silver and other household articles were given at the time of marriage to help them live in California. Sindhu Sri’s parents alleged that since the day of marriage, the in-laws were pestering her for additional dowry.
They said that they were even ready to dispose of one acre land located at Krishnapatnam and Muttakuru. Two months back, Sai Sindhu Sri was ready to come back to parents forever to protect herself from the clutches of husband and in-laws, the parents recalled. They informed the police that Sindhu Sri’s body was being brought to Hyderabad by her husband for her last rites. They requested the police officials to see that the dead body was brought to Nellore for further investigation.
