Chandrababu needs 15,000 acres for Vizag airport. Why ?

24th April, 2015 2:42pm     Andhra Pradesh      Comments

The standoff between the farmers and the AP government seems to be intensifying with each passing day and with the joining of opposition parties in the protests against the government's bid to acquire farmers' lands to the tune of 15,000 acres to build the Greenfield Airport in Bhogapuram on the border of Vizag and Vizianagaram.

The AP government, under the CM Chandrababu's supervision, has promised the farmers who have been refusing to give away their lands, to compensate with totally developed lands in the future. However, the wary farmers are in no mood to believe the government's moves since it miserably failed to compensate their severe losses caused by the
Hudhud cyclone.

Some well informed farmers have been questiong Chandrababu's plan to take away 15,000 acres of land for the Bhogapuram Airport when the London airport was built in just 3000 acres and Mumbai airport in 1900 acres followed by Chennai airport in only 1300 acres.

Meanwhile, most of the land owners bought the lands between 2006-2012 at cheaper rates and developed them into residential plots. These land owners are stand to lose big if AP government proceeds ahead with its land acquisition plans.
