Visakhapatnam: The Eastern Naval Command is considering the construction of a permanent jetty at Kakinada. It is also mulling deploying a mother ship that will offer logistical assistance to the surveillance and patrol vessels guarding the economic activity of Offshore Development Area (ODA) of the Krishna-Godavari Basin. It’s becoming expensive to berth a Naval ship at a private jetty whenever it goes to the KG Basin.
“The ENC’s mandate has been increasing with the presence of 30 ports across the 3,000-km coastline and ODA. We have already prepared proposal for building the jetty at Kakinada. We need a captive jetty as it will reduce operational costs and save time since vessels in KG have to come all the way to Vizag for support,” said ENC Commander Vice-Admiral Satish Soni.
