Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Friday that he would leave it to the wisdom of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to keep or erase the mention of Telangana from AP textbooks.

“I leave it to his wisdom. But if there are one or two good things about Andhra, we will include them,” Mr Rao said. The TRS government, which had itself decided to erase the ‘Andhra influence’ from books, is upset over the AP government’s proposal of not including the Telangana movement in its books.

Home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and TRS MP K. Kavita criticised the AP government’s decision to localise school curriculum and eliminate topics on Telangana and the movement at a meeting where several corporators and others joined the TRS.

“AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is stated to have decided not to include the Telangana movement or other aspects of Telangana in the books. If he tries to erase Telangana movement from the history books, he will be washed away,” said Ms Kavita. She added, “Andhra leaders ignored Telangana people and their culture during their rule. They made fun of the Telangana language and culture. We don’t have any problem if they want to ignore the Telangana movement. It’s their decision.”

The Home minister meanwhile said that the world knew about the Telangana movement and even if the Andhra Pradesh government ignored it, there would be no impact. Andhra Pradesh is planning to localise school curriculum and eliminate Telangana topics. The revamped curriculum will be taught from the 2016-17 academic year. The Telangana government too had asked the TS State Council of Educational Research and Training to localise the curriculum, focusing on Telangana. All mentions of AP are set to be deleted from the textbooks in Telangana.
