Forget about Service Tax other expenses for a moment, People of AP have to be prepared to pay 'Street-Light' tax from now.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already cleared the proposal. Soon, We will find the clause 'streetlight tax' in the property tax notices served to the residents of 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

AP Government took this move to cover the huge losses incurred by the power utilities. For the fiscal year 2014-15, 313.12 Million Units of power has been supplied for the streetlights in AP and the expenditure is Rs 170.81 crore. However, Power Utilities were able to recover only Rs 5.46 crore from the user bodies.

As per the new Tax, Residents of each House will have to additional pay nearly Rs 100 per year depending on the property tax owner has to pay.  Nearly 3.5 crore people will be paying 'streetlight tax' as AP Govt decided to put the burden on them.
