The famous George Washington University of USA is preparing to impose a ban on swastika, a sacred symbol for Hindus and Buddhists from its campus. The symbol resembles the Nazi symbol and may hurt the sensibilities of some Jewish students so we are contemplating to ban it from university; Said a representative.

The move came after an unidentified student, who is Jewish, returned last month from a trip to India with a swastika image. He placed it briefly on the bulletin board and one fraternity member who saw the swastika on the bulletin board thought it was some kind of threat and informed police. The issue created ruckus in campus and finally police concluded it was not related to any kind of threat.

The director of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and dean of student affairs will soon hold a hearing in the matter and take final decision.

The swastika symbol of the Nazis is sometimes illegal to display in Germany. Historically, the swastika symbol denotes general peace and world harmony, not the violence and genocide associated with the Nazi movement. The word swastika is derived from a Sanskrit word that describes any form of good luck charm.
