BJP MLAs stage protest over Swachh Hyd Campaign

Six BJP leaders including state party unit president G Kishan Reddy were taken into custody when they staged a dharna before C Block in the Secretariat protesting against the indifferent attitude of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao towards BJP MLAs from Hyderabad.

BJP floor leader in the state Assembly K Laxman, BJP state president and MLA G Kishan Reddy, MLAs Raja Sigh, NVVS Prabhakar, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and MLC N Ramachandra Rao wanted to meet the chief minister. But, despite their repeated attempts, the CM’s phone was unanswered.

The BJP MLAs then rushed to the Secretariat and staged a dharna before the C Block. They contended that KCR was not taking city MLAs into confidence while organising  Swachh Hyderabad programme.

Speaking to reporters later, Laxman alleged that though the CM assured on the floor of the House that he would convene a meeting of city MLAs to resolve the pending peoples’ issues, the government failed to convene the meet in the last 11 months. MLAs, especially those elected on BJP, were not taken into confidence in the Swachh Hyderabad programme, for which the state was spending `200 crore.

Laxman demanded that the chief minister should immediately convene a meeting of city MLAs. The Swachh Hyderabad programme taken up by the government was only to garner mileage in the ensuing GHMC polls, he alleged.  After the BJP leaders’ dharna, the state government announced that it would convene a meeting of city leaders on May 14.

The chief minister will convene a meeting with all MPs, MLAs, MLCs from the city on Swachh Hyderabad at 2.30 pm on May 14. Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and other peoples’ representatives will be invited to the meeting. “The state government has decided to involve every citizen in the Swachh Hyderabad programme,” an official release from the CMO said.

Speaking to newsmen ence later, Laxman said they would meet governor ESL Narasimhan on Wednesday to complain about government’s indifference in convening meeting with city legislators on city related issues.  He also said they would meet Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.
