Cabinet reshuffle,modi,foreign visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to reshuffle the Union Cabinet before leaving for a foreign visit on April 9.
Top BJP sources say the exercise "will focus on improving governance and accommodating allies". It will be the second reshuffle for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government in the past 10 months.
The sources said a leader from election-bound Bihar and one each from the Shiv Sena and the People's Democratic Party may be inducted. Some ministers are likely to be promoted.
Among ministers likely to be promoted are MoS for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, MoS for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy and MoS for Railways Manoj Sinha. MoS for Finance Jayanth Sinha may be given additional charge of the corporate affairs ministry.
While ally Shiv Sena has been demanding more seats in the Cabinet, sources said it is likely that Shiv Sena nominee Anil Desai, who was left out of the last Cabinet expansion, may be made an MoS with independent charge.
Party insiders said Modi might use the reshuffle to send out a strong message to non-performing NDA ministers. In his first Cabinet expansion in November, Modi had inducted 21 new faces. The Cabinet has 26 Union ministers, 13 Ministers of State with independent charge and 26 other ministers of state.
Ram Madhav, who played a key role in the formation of the BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, is also likely to find place in the government.
