Priya Narwal of Army Public School, who secured the first rank in the medical stream, celebrating with her parents and relatives,Bengaluru students excel,CET results
Bengaluru: The Common Entrance Test (CET) results announced on Monday by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) had a surprise element. Unlike previous years, the top rankings in all the streams were grabbed by students from just four districts of the state i.e. Bengaluru, Mangalore, Udupi and North Canara. Interestingly more than half of the top 10 ranks have been taken by the city students.
In the medical stream, Priya Narwal, of the city Army Public School got the 1st rank. She scored 58/60, 55/60 and 58/60 in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the CET examination. Second rank holder Manasa L, a student of VVS Sardar Patel PU college, Basaveshwarnagar, missed the first rank by just two marks. She achieved 170/180 in the CET medical examination. Pallavi T of Deeksha PU college stood third. In engineering, the 1st rank went to Swagat S Yadawad, who presently lives in Hyderabad. He studied in the city till Std X. In architecture, the first three ranks were grabbed by city students.
Releasing the results, the Higher education and tourism minister Mr. RV Deshpande, said that the merit list was based on seven different courses. 19,275 candidates were found eligible for medical and dental courses. 1.12 lakh students got eligibility for engineering courses while 85,407 students were eligible for the Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISMHC) course. 82,161 students got eligibility for agriculture, 85,577 (veterinary), 1.16 lakh (B. pharma) and Pharma-D were the other courses.
12 helplines
Mr. Deshpande informed that the KEA helpline has been set up in 13 districts including Bengaluru, Davanagere, Bellary, Raichur, Kalburgi,, Vijayapura, Belagavi, Dharwad, Karwar, Mangalore, Shivamogga, Hasan and Mysuru to assist students in the imminent counseling process.
Grace marks
Mr. Deshpande said that compared to previous years, the number of errors in the question papers had come down this year. In CET 2013, 18 grace marks were given to the students while in CET 2014 it was 16. This year just 8 marks were allotted as grace marks.
Preparation is their mantra
Swagat S Yadawad, CET Engineering 1st Rank
I found the CET examination easy because I was preparing for IIT. Hopefully, I will get into IIT Bombay for Computer Science. I have attended FITJEE, Hyderabad classes for more thorough studying. I have scored 98% in 2nd PUC, with cent percent in Physics, Maths and Chemistry.
Kommuru Alekhya Reddy, CET Engineering 2nd Rank
I used to wake up every morning religiously to study. I used extra-curricular activities to keep stress at bay and followed a strict time-table. I made sure to focus on my weak points and made them my strengths,” she said. Like Swagat, Kommuru wants to do Computer Science at an any of the IIT’s and is eagerly awaiting her IIT rank. In the CBSE results announced just recently, Kommuru scored a massive 489 on 500.
M Karthik, CET Engineering 3rd Rank
M. Karthik, who ranks third in the state, is also an IIT aspirant. Karthik joined the Integrated IITJEE course in Base and found CET easier, thanks to his vigorous preparation. “CET was a cakewalk for me. I am currently waiting for my IIT results and want to go to NIT Surat”. Karthik’s second option is IISc Pune and the third is CET. If the other two disappoint him, then he will choose to go to a college in Bengaluru.
Pallavi T, CET Medical 3rd rank
I have worked hard for this. It’s all about concentrating on what you want to do. Pallavi also got Rank 7 in the KVPY scholarship exam and she adds , “I never believed in group studies, you need to first concentrate on where you’re weak and have gone wrong and once you have mastered the art, you can nail any exam
Sharan G S, CET architecture 1st rank
“The mantra is to stay calm, prepare a lot and perform well. I never panicked at any moment and my friends and parents were a great support. My teachers guided me throughout and they really taught me how to prepare for the exam. I was given NATA coaching rigorously”.
