NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police team reportedly visited the office of Congress heir apparent Rahul Gandhi to make queries about his physical features, riling the opposition party which is now planning to take up the issue with the city cops.
Top Congress sources said the policemen came calling at Rahul's office last week. They are said to have asked about his looks, like the colour of his eyes and his hair.
Police's curiosity about Rahul's appearance left Congress baffled and intrigued. When an explanation for the questions was sought from one of the visiting cops, he had none to offer. Sources said Rahul's office managers took a picture of the policeman before he left.
Senior Delhi Police officials refused to comment on the issue when approached by TOI.
Congress members are angry over the "intrusive visit". They are also intrigued over the motive behind such an "unnecessary" investigation.
"If at all there was need to know his features or get his photograph, he is an MP, it can be had from the internet or a website. All his records are also available in Parliament," a senior party member said.
For Congress managers, the cops' dash to Rahul's office was even more curious because it came when he is in the headlines for his "introspection leave".
On February 23, the party announced that Rahul had taken a break from routine politics to mull over Congress's recent debacles and to prepare the future roadmap. Though completely at sea about the reasons that made the policemen visit Rahul's office, Congress is likely to lodge a protest with the Delhi Police commissioner.
