Gajwel Assembly gets Rs 500 crore project

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s Gajwel Assembly constituency is set to get the first big drug project. Mr Rao will lay the foundation for the Rs 500 crore insulin project of Shanta Bio Tech with French tie-up at Muppireddypalli near Gajwel on Thursday.

The CM promised to turn his Gajwel Assembly segment into a model constituency and promised all-round development. Sources said, the company got clearances on the fast track as promised by the CM. Apart from the drug company, Mr Rao is also keen on having some horticulture, agro-based industries in the region.

Mr Rao owns a 50-acre farm near Gajwel where he has taken up green house cultivation of several horticulture crops, including green and coloured capsicum among others.

“Several companies are now lining up following the government’s promise to have single-window clearance. ITC has also planned a big expansion in Khammam,” a senior official said.

Sources said Mr Rao has also checked out some of the closed or sick industries in the state and asked officials to draw up revival plans, including those in Warangal and other districts.

Meanwhile, on January 30 Mr Rao will convene a Cabinet meet to review  swine flu cases, government schemes like water grid, Mission Kakatiya, pending irrigation projects, power situation, two-bed room housing for poor, ration cards among others.
