Sangareddy: Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao has laid out the government's plans for providing water for irrigation and drinking purposes for the people of Medak District. Addressing the media at Sangareddy, he said the government was keen on providing water for irrigation to 5, 50,000 acres by building two reservoirs (Tarkapalli and Pamulaparthi) as part of Pranahitha Chevella project.

He said as much as 50 tmcft could be stored in the reservoirs and the cost of the project was around  Rs 9,000 crore. Seven districts would be benefited by the project. He also said  Ghanapur Anakatta, which was built during the Nizams would be modernised and detailed project report (DPR) had already been prepared and the cost was estimated to be around Rs 30 crore and another DPR was getting ready.  The government had allocated Rs 24 crore in budget for this project.

He also stressed the need to improve 20 different water schemes in Medak district.  He revealed the State government's plans to build a water grid for 2,400 villages and hamlets  with a view to provide potable water. He said the scheme was already implemented in 850 villages, including Siddipet and by March 950 villages would be covered under the grid. As much as Rs 430 crore had  been sanctioned for Medak district.
