Senior IAS officer and Additional Secretary to Telangana Chief Minister KCR, Smita Sabharwal, has sent a legal notice to a popular national media publication house for allegedly carrying an extremely derogatory caricature about her. The said caricature was so audacious that nowhere it mentioned the IAS officer's name and yet described her attire and appearance in a sexist tone.
In its article, the magazine said that the IAS officer's portfolio is a mystery and further called the bureaucrat as 'eye candy' who makes a fashion statement with her 'lovely saris' in official meetings. Upset with the article, Smita slapped a notice to the magazine and gave 15 days to tender an apology in the magazine, failing which it has to face a defamation suit and criminal proceedings.
Smita Sabharwal was known for her efficient administration during her tenure as the Collector of Medak and Karimnagar districts. CM KCR himself appointed the top bureaucrat in his office, upon knowing about her efficiency. This article surely looks to be in cheap taste to malign the IAS' reputation.
