Jagan slams govt over farmer suicides

Anantapur: YSR Congress Party president and Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday lashed out at the State government for the spate of suicides by farmers across the State.

Addressing a public meeting at Palyam village under Pamidi mandal in the district on Wednesday as part of his Rythu Bharosa Yatra  on the fourth day, he said the TDP government had failed miserably in implementing the loan wavier scheme, resulting in the deaths of 87 farmers.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for reneging on his promise on waiver of farm loans, Jagan said the TDP candidates would lose their deposits if elections were held now. The TDP came to power by making false promises, he said.

Jagan visited the families of two farmers who committed suicide under Pamidi mandal and consoled them. He told the farmers not to get disheartened as they have a bright future. Later, he went to Sorakalayapeta and enquired from the farmers about the problems being faced by them.

The YSRCP president garlanded the statue of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at Palyam village. Then, he went to Anumpalli village and consoled the family of farmer Obanna who committed suicide.YSCRP MLAs Y Vishweshwar Reddy, Attar Chand Basha, former minister Ananta Venkatram Reddy, MP Mithun Reddy, former MLA Gurunatha Reddy and others were present.
