A massive fire broke out in the Parliament complex on Sunday with television channels showing visuals of heavy smoke billowing out of the premises.

The fire was reported to be at an air-conditioning plant on the outskirts of the complex. Not many people were in the area when the incident happened, NDTV reported.

"The fire was reported to the control room at 2.21pm. It (the alert) was upgraded immediately… At 2.38pm, the fire was said to be surrounded. It appears to be in the AC plant room. There are around 30 people (of the fire service) in the area," AK Sharma, director of the Director Fire Service, said.

More details are awaited.
