In an unfortunate incident, a mother and her daughter were sexually assaulted by two men at Kattempudi of Ponnuru Mandalam in Guntur district.

Though the incident happened Wednesday night when the mother and her daughter were returning home after purchasing clothes at a shop in Ponnuru town, it came to light only today after the relatives and well wishers asked them to lodge a police complaint.

Initially, the victims hesitated to approach the police as the culprits threatened them with dire consequences if they had lodged  complaint against them.

Police said the rapists are from the same village and identified as Vinod and Ramesh. Both the culprits are at large and police launched a manhunt to nab them.

Police registered case against the culprits under several sections and the victims were sent for medical examination.
