In a suspected case of honour killing, dead bodies of a couple were found locked in two separate trunks in a public park in Haryana's Sonipat district.
The bodies found inside the trunks dumped near the corner of Devi Lal Park on National Highway 1 had no clothes on them and the legs of the boy are missing. While the man was around 30 years old, the woman was around 25-30 years old. The young woman was also wearing a set of bangles which are commonly worn by newly-wed women, police said.
"We have constituted five police teams that will work on the case and hunt for further clues. We are hopeful about solving the case at the earliest, Sonepat Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar said.
Asked if it could be a case of honour killing, he said that nothing can be ruled out at this stage. The bodies have been sent for post mortem.
Haryana is notorious for its honour killings, which are generally triggered by inter-caste marriages or relationships between two people from the same Gotra or clan.
