Election Commission of India made it clear that it can't increase the Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as per the AP Reorganisation Act just because of legal issues.

On Friday, Telangana CM K Chandrasehar Rao has given a representation to Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma in Delhi seeking delimitation of Assembly seats to 153 from existing 119 in the newly formed state.

It was during this meeting, HS Brahma conveyed EC could increase the districts in Telugu states only if Home Ministry makes amendments to AP Reorganisation Act. Even AP Government was informed by EC about the defects in Act recently.

Either President of India or Union Home Ministry have to take the initiative to correct the defects in AP Reorganisation Act so that delimitation of Assembly seats will be permitted. If the amendments were made, AP and Telangana will be having 153 and 225 Assembly constituencies respectively.
