SUN TV Network,Security Clearance
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has denied the security clearance to Kalanidhi Maran's SUN TV Network, which includes 33 TV channels in all languages. This denial by the union ministry will now result in the cancellation of broadcasting licence of SUN TV Network, leading to all its TV channels going off air in the coming few days, including the popular Telugu entertainment channel Gemini TV. the denial was the result of the CBI investigation followed by the ED case of money laundering on Dayanidhi Maran.
This Friday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) submitted its decision to the MHA regarding the review of security clearance following the letter written by I&B Minister Aru Jaitley to the Home Minister Rajnath Singh. However, the MHA stood firm on its decision and denied the license. Earlier, 40 FM stations being run by the SUN TV Network had been denied security clearance by the MHA.
Now, unless the courts intervene in the matter, the cancellation of license and the channels going off air look inevitable for SUN TV Network. Following this denial by the ministry, the SUN TV Network stock crashed from 29% to a 52 week low, with Monday alone seeing a decrease of 28%. Close to 3,900 crore worth investor wealth was eroded due to the crash.
