To invest 20,000 crore in the thermal power plant that will use imported coal

Hyderabad: Power major NTPC has put on fast track mode its new 4000 MW power plant coming up near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The country’s largest power producer is now in the process of establishing 4X1000 MW thermal power plant which will run on imported coal. NTPC will invest a total of Rs 20,000 crore on the plant which is coming up on a 1,200-acre site in Atchutapuram and Rambilli mandals of Visakhapatnam district

“Tenders are already invited for the main plant equipment and NTPC is taking up this project on fast track mode,” the power producer said.  It is the first time in the country that the company is executing 1000 MW coal-based units with supercritical technology as against 800 MW units earlier. It says this new technology will not only improve efficiency, but also reduce emissions drastically. “Expert Appraisal Committee under the Ministry of Environment and Forests has already issued terms of reference in a meeting held in January for conducting EIA study in respect of this project,” it added. The EIA study is currently in progress.
