Passport verification goes hi-tech in Hyderabad
"Thanks to the technology, Thanks to the iPads", says special branch officers who recieved Ipads with 3G connectivity for a sonner verfication process for passports.
Heading to peoples problem in delayed passports, and corruption charges, Hyderabad police instead of manual process headed for digital process. Police recieve more than 1 lakh passport applications every year in hyderabad. The gruesome process delay passports whether its tatkal or normal, as the police assign it to local field officer who checks everything and sends it back PV cell with proofs and they need send the same to passport regional office. Police expressed that all the special branch officer are trained in using Ipads would speeden the process.
Police have distributed 200 Ipads for this. According to police, average time taken for passport verification was 61 days in 2012, 35 days in 2013 and 27 in the last quarter of 2014. But people even now wait for 3 to 4 months to recieve their passports even after all valid papers. With the help of technology, police ensure faster and transparency in the verification process. Whether expectations will be met or not will be seen in future .
