A Panchayat in Barmer village in Rajasthan has reportedly ordered to chopp off a Dalit rape victim's nose, at the request of the suspected rapist.

The victim sought police protection from her alleged rapist who is her father-in-law and the villagers from her locality, reported Hindustan Times on Monday.

The woman alleges that her father-in-law had been harassing her ever since she got married, and then raped her in September.

After she complained to the police, he was taken into custody.

However, he was released on bail, after which he requested the caste panchayat to physically maim her.

On December 19, members of the Panchayat attempted to carry out the punishment, but as per statements she hid at her maternal home with the help of her father.
