Two police constables in Uttar Pradesh, who have been suspended for allegedly abducting and gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in the district of Badaun, are on the run.
Local authorities are attempting to nab Veer Pal Singh Yadav and Avnish Yadav, who abducted the minor from her house on 31 December and raped her in the premises of the Musajhag Police Station, PTI reported.
Last year, two teenage girls were found hanging from a tree in a village in Badaun, in a shocking episode that provoked a reaction from the United Nations.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been severely censured in the media for failing to make Uttar Pradesh safe for women. His government promised stern action to the latest Badaun rape on Twitter.
