Hyderabad: After a series of high-level meetings held recently in connection with discharge of untreated industrial waste into the Kukatpally Nala, the Pollution Control Board, in its first move to eliminate the hurdles ahead of the clean-up task at Hussain Sagar Lake, has decided to expedite its proposal to relocate the industrial units located in and around Kukatpally.

According to PCB, the industrial units were not only adding to the pollution, but were also releasing chemical effluents which were being let out into the lake eventually. Aiming to put an end to this inflow of hazardous chemical waste into the lake, PCB will announce its decision to relocate these industrial units in the next few days.

Several measures taken in the past including installation of common effluent treatment plant to control waste did not materialise as these units were time and again releasing electroplating chemicals like chromium, silver, zinc and other metals, despite board’s directions to transport the effluents to Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Plant. Recently, a meeting was also chaired in this regard by GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar. It was attended by officials of PCB and Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited.
